Power Engineering Research Unit (PERU)

The Power Engineering Research Unit (PERU) is a specialized research entity within the Faculty of Engineering, the Built Environment and Technology. The unit is dedicated to advancing the field of power systems through research that addresses both fundamental and applied challenges in power generation, transmission, distribution, and utilization. A key focus area of PERU is the integration of Artificial Intelligence techniques into power engineering systems, with the aim of enhancing efficiency, reliability, and sustainability.

In addition to its research activities, PERU contributes to the development of engineering capacity by engaging with industry and the broader engineering community through Short Learning Programmes (SLPs). These programmes are designed to strengthen both technical expertise and management capabilities, thereby supporting professional growth and innovation within the sector.
