Professional Activities
Sijekula is a registered and active member of SAAPAM, SAMEA, GISSA and SAPI.
Sijekula currently serves in the Editorial Board of the Urban Forum Journal that is hosted by the University of Cape Town, in university academic and engagement committees and South African national government Advisory Committees, including the DSI/CSIR Advisory Committee on Science and Technology Innovations for Sustainable Human Settlements (www.sti4shs.co.za) , South African Reference Group on the New Urban Agenda, the Southern African Cities Studies Network, the South Africa-Sweden Universities Forum Advisory Committee on Urbanisation and 21st Century Cities (https://sasuf2019.mandela.ac.za), the NAHRO – USA International Housing Research and Exchange Forum, the World Bank Inclusive Development Network, the Society for Housing Professionals in Africa. Sijekula is actively participating in the Ndlambe EcOSUN Green Village project at Ekuphumleni Township in Kenton-On-Sea that is implemented in partnership with the University of Potsdam in Germany (www.ecosun.com.de) emanating from the STINT scientific cooperation, technology transfer and exchange programme between South Africa and Germany. Sijekula, working with Professor Janet Cherry of the Department of Development Studies, is also involved in a DAAD funded Participatory Action Design and Joint Action Project for Sustainable Development three year exchange programme between the university and the HS Wismar University in Germany. He also serves on the Board of the Human Settlements Action Group NGO and is the Chairperson of the South African Institute of Human Settlements Practitioners.
